Route Map

The Swiss Alpine Passes Trail is a long-distance mountain route connecting major alpine passes across multiple Swiss mountain systems. The route combines technical singletrack, glacial valleys, steep scree climbs, and exposed ridgelines.

This is a physically and mentally demanding undertaking. Daily elevation gain frequently exceeds 1800 meters and weather windows strongly influence progress. The route regularly climbs above 2500 meters where storms, cold wind, and fog become serious operational factors.

Terrain quality varies continuously between runnable alpine trail and highly technical rocky sections requiring slow movement. Some descents are extremely steep and unstable after rain. Snowfields remain possible through midsummer on north-facing passes.

Resupply is manageable but expensive. Several alpine villages have limited opening hours outside tourist season. Water access is generally reliable through mountain streams though purification remains recommended.

Navigation requires strong mountain competence. Trails are generally marked but bad weather and fatigue create navigation errors. Completion times vary significantly depending on fitness, weather, and pacing strategy. Experienced fastpackers commonly require between sixteen and twenty-four days.
